The world's top-selling open sports car, the Mazda MX-5, has been given the fastback treatment with the unveiling of the Mazda RS Coupe.
Currently the car has only been shown as a "concept", but reports suggest the button has been pushed and the car will be on sale before long.
Most convertibles are the result of carefully cutting the roof off an existing coupe, but the MX5 was designed from the outset as a convertible.
Now, after more than 10 years of open-air driving, the cute roadster will adopt a fully integrated metal roof - intended to expand the appeal of the relatively basic, well-styled convertible, which has been praised for its traditional front-engine, rear-drive layout that provides competent sports car dynamics.
Based on the current model, second-generation MX5, the RS Coupe features the same basic mechanicals, interior and front styling as the popular convertible. However, the rear adopts a smoother look that flows into a restyled boot.
The shape is said to be more aerodynamic, which will lead to a higher top speed, while the solid roof and redesigned boot also liberate a lot more space.
Underneath is the regular car's variable-valve-timing 1.8-litre four-cylinder, which makes a modest 106 kW of power, providing zippy rather than outstanding performance when combined with the lightweight two-door frame.
Suspension is likely to be retuned to allow for the changed dynamics and variation in weight between the soft and hardtop.
